BARRY LEIGHTON-JONES.
Large painting
5 scenes of John Wayne
directly from various movies,
over a western scenic
background.
This very rare
piece is the original 1/1.
Signed lower right,
Leighton-Jones .
It was originally commissioned
by Ted Turner, who owns full
rights to it’s reproduction.
The works was originally
created for the John Wayne
Archival Films, form Metro
Goldwyn Meyer (MGM). Though
Turner holds rights to the
work, the artist Barry was
allowed to keep the original,
which was lost in an attic in
London and then sold. This
piece has come from its
original owner who has the
original documentation.
Barry Leighton-Jones was born
in London, a direct descendant
of Lord Frederic Leighton.
Leighton-Jones won his first
art competition at the age of
5 and was later schooled by
John Minton. Leighton-Jones’
work has been noticed by many
important people; Ted Turner’s
preference for Barry’s work
has made him a lead candidate
for promotional works (ads,
banners, theater marques and
commemorative pieces), not
only John Wayne, but also for
the 50th
Anniversary releases of Gone
With The Wind and The Wizard
Of Oz.
Barry is also the official
artist for the world famous
clown, Emmett Kelly. 27
original paintings and 25
original drawings have been
completed for this collection.
This work titled “The Duke
Montage” is a very important
piece, as it is the first
known original work by this
artist to be brought to
auction.
