Clocks And Watches Preview

Lot 1 E. HOWARD & CO. #60 ASTRONOMICAL HANGING REGULATOR.
This clock has a fantastic walnut case with burled trim and high quality carving, in excellent condition. The 14" vitrolite reverse painted glass dial is original and in good condition. It is signed "E. Howard & Co. Boston Mass". Typical outside chapter ring for minutes with Arabic 5 minute markers and a black minute marker chapter ring, small subsidiary hour dial with bold black Roman hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds bit with 10 second Arabic second markers and a black second chapter ring, each with period blued hands. The clock has a massive top quality brass movement signed "E. Howard & Co. Boston", Graham Dead Beat Escapement, beats seconds, Geneva stop and blued crutch. Solid brass pulley (#17), top quality brass weight, compensating "mercurial pendulum" (#157), all in very good condition. There appears to be a very light overcoat over the original finish. This clock was recently discovered in a private Florida home from descendants of a Plattsburg, N.Y. jeweler. 29"W x 79"H x 10"D.

Lot 2 SIGNED HERTER BROTHERS MANTLE CLOCK.
A heavily carved case with a beveled pediment, turned side finials and a platform base with hairy carved legs and claw feet centered with a hanging fruit cluster. There is a rectangular compartment for adjusting the pendulum. Case is finely incised and gilt decorated. Has a 2 color marble dial with brass Roman numerals, a round brass movement signed by the maker "J.B.D. - 29692", matching the bezel. Time and strike on the half hour on a single bell rack and snail striking mechanism, strikes but does not stop properly. The movement is also signed by the case maker and retailer "Herter Brothers - New York". Movement is dirty and needs to be adjusted. 19.5"W x 20"H x 6"D.

Lot 3 FRENCH INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATED LOCOMOTIVE CLOCK.
A large bronze steam locomotive in dark bronze finish with gilt bronze trimmings, a gold lever on the front switches the automated wheels on and off, running on a large movement within the body. In the cab is a signed "Jappy Freres" 8 day time and bell strike movement and a barometer on the boiler, both of which have silvered dials. Balance has good brisk motion. On a black marble platform with gilt bronze tracks and 4 gilt bracket feet. In excellent condition and good working order. 18.75"W x 15.5"H x 9"D.

Lot 4 FRENCH FIGURAL 2 CHAIN SWINGER MYSTERY CLOCK.
Standing figure of a robed maiden, holding a bird's nest on her left hip and her right arm is reaching up holding a crossbar. Suspended from 2 chains on the crossbar is a swinging timepiece. The cylindrical case has some floral etched design on the sides and a fancy bezel; has a straight minute hand and a spade hour hand, chapter ring has gilt incised Roman numerals. Time only movement with a jeweled pallet "Brocot" escapement. In good condition. 8"W x 29"H x 10"D.

Lot 5 WHOLESALE JEWELERS OF AMERICA "COLONIAL" PINWHEEL REGULATOR.
Blued open moon hour and minute hands and sweep second hand with some tarnish, 11" paper dial signed "H.J. Hoffman Jewelers - Loogootee, Indiana", has some foxing; polished brass bezel, typical time only pinwheel movement with pinwheel escapement, massive heavy gridiron pendulum and massive pendulum bob, single brass weight. In a cherry Colonial style case by Wholesale Jewelers of America; has a high crest with swirling filigree, centered with an oval medallion, the top frame has 4 carved floral mounts on the front and one on each side. Spindled drop skirt with scrolled filigree and seashell. In very good condition.
This clock was originally seen in the J. Meyer Jewelers store in Loogootee, IN. The store was later purchased by his nephew and in 1906 the store was sold to Henry J. Hoffman, who had the paper dial added, and the clock stayed in the family and at the business until 1981, when his son Bob retired. 32.5"W x 94"H x 11"D.

Lot 6 GRAND SONNERIE BIEDERMEIER LANTERN CLOCK.
Has good blued hands, porcelain dial with painted Roman numerals and black minute markers, signed "Christian Pederi", with a fancy gilt brass bezel. Has a single weight movement with spring driven Grand Sonnerie mechanism striking on coiled anvils, runs smooth and strikes properly. In a mahogany Biedermeier lantern case, inlaid with satinwood borders. Complete with a single brass weight and a polished steel pendulum rod with a brass bob. In excellent original condition. 8"W x 28"H x 5"D.

Lot 7 U.S. CLOCK CO. ASTRONOMICAL REGULATOR, STYLE "D".
15" Silvered dial has the typical outside chapter ring for the minutes with Arabic 5 minute markers and a black minute marker chapter ring, small subsidiary hour dial with bold black Roman hour numerals and a subsidiary seconds bit with 10 second Arabic second markers and black second chapter ring. Quality brass time only movement, dead beat escapement, steel pendulum shaft with an oval cut glass mercurial compensating pendulum jar, and a quality brass weight and brass pulley. Tarnished dial, bezel, escape levers and crutch, broken suspension spring. In a "D" style walnut case with an arched pediment crest centered with a figural lion's head; has burled panels and scrolled corbels. Arched heavy glass door with a frosted Greek key border and reverse painted with gold leaf letter at the bottom of the door "Established 1892", mirrored back. Door glass is cracked, in original finish, missing 3 finials on the top and missing the base. There is no mercury in the pendulum jar. 33"W x 87"H x 12"D.

Lot 8 1 YEAR BRASS & GLASS SHELF CLOCK W/ BAROMETER.
Has blued moon minute and hour hands, chapter ring has black Roman numerals and minute markers, a small sub-seconds dial and a 400 day up/down indicator; signed on the dial "Remontez". A French movement running on a single spring and an adjustable ball-balanced rocking Equipoise pendulum. Timepiece is mounted under a barometer with polished brass bezels. Movement marked on the back "Brevete S.G.D.G". In a simple brass case with beveled glass sides. In good condition, runs. 9"W x 15"H x 7"D.

Lot 9 LE COULTRE "MARINA"ATMOS DESK CLOCK.
White dial w/ applied polished brass Arabic hour numerals and bezel. Signed on the dial in black, "Jaeger Le Coultre - Atmos". Has a typical gilt brass Atmos movement. The case has unusually thick beveled glass with black and gilded "ship" decorations, signed on the front door "Marina". In excellent condition w/ no losses. 7"W x 9"H x 5.5"D.

Lot 120 LARGE OAK GAME CARVED SIDEBOARD ATTR. A. ROUX.
Has an elaborate highly carved crest with a large deer head over a shield, the main panel has an applied carved hunting scene with 2 dogs chasing a wild boar in the forest. Each side of the crest has a turned column with a bird feeding on a cluster of fruit. Below is a pair of shelves with figural maiden carved corbels and paneled backs. The base of this sideboard has 2 large doors in the center and curved sides under drawers. Each of the door panels is centered with a large carving of hanging wild game including wild boar, deer, ducks and fish among bugles, ribbons and filigree; with hanging carved fruit clusters between each door. The drawers have carved pulls with various berry clusters and leaves with dogs heads in between. In very good original finish. 83"W x 101"H x 23"D.

Lot 121 LOUIS CARVIN. BRONZE FIGURAL PHOENIX INKWELL. Features a winged phoenix perched on top of a large oak tree stump, sprouting with branches and clusters of oak leaves and acorns. Below has bunches of grapes, vines, and leaves. 2 buckets, one tipped over with a dead bird and a large pitcher on the left side, a bale of wheat on the right. The cover lifts off of the main basket, revealing the inkwell. Mounted on a large oval black marble base with a scrolled penholder. Silvered finish over bronze with intricate detail. Signed on the back "L. Carvin". Good original condition. 18"W x 11"H x 10"D.

Large metal sign with a painted gilt finish, has an hourglass mortar & pestle form mounted on 3 sides with red glass lenses; this piece is designed to sit on a bracket, lighting up the red lenses. It is of very good quality and is overall good condition with some minor flaking to the paint. 36"H.

Lot 124 J. SATXKA. HAND PAINTED PORCELAIN PLAQUE. Hand painted with a courting scene of a man and a young woman in the woods, standing next to a well. The season is autumn and there are few leaves on the trees. Signed in red, lower right corner "J Satxka". A label on the back reads "An der Ouelle". In good condition, no breaks, chips or repairs. 9.5"W x 15"H.

Lot 125 R.J. HORNER FIGURAL CARVED OAK PARTNER'S DESK.
Carved with figural maidens on the legs, fruit clusters at the waist and hairy claw & ball feet. The aprons and drawer fronts are carved with swirling filigree centered with lion's heads. Both sides are fully functional with 2 banks of 4 drawers and a single drawer over the kneehole; locks signed "Eagle Lock Co". The top and paneled sides have highly grained quarter sawn oak. In excellent condition. 59"W x 30"H x 39"D.

Lot 126 WALNUT RENAISSANCE REVIVAL MARBLE TOP PLANT STAND.
Has a turned center column w/ drop finial and 4 legs with burled panels and rosettes, elaborately carved at the feet. The top frame is 22" in diameter and incised around the border with a 15" white marble insert. Original finish and excellent condition. 30"H.

Lot 127 COPPER SCULPTURE OF A WOMAN.
The woman is seated on her left hip, leaning on her left arm, her right arm is reaching out and holding a seashell. Her hair is tied behind her head and she wears a thin robe. Sculpted in copper, this is an unsigned piece with great detail in the hands and face with a nice brown patina. In overall good condition, has some damage to the toes. 26"W x 25"H x 21"D.

Lot 128 PR. HEAVILY CARVED WINGED GRIFFIN PEDESTALS.
The large detailed walnut griffin have feathered wings and a long tail, scrolling up to the top platform (13" inside diameter). The reeded platform base stands on 3 seashell feet. The upper platforms have some cracks and seam separations. Original finish with a waxed surface. 15"W x 49"H x 15"D.

Lot 129 STEUBEN AURENE BLUE IRIDESCENT 3 HANDLED VASE.
Has a round platform base under a bulbous inverted domical body tapering at the neck with a flared rim. Has 3 symetrical "Fleur de lis" applied handles, scrolled at the top. Has a heavily silvered smooth blue iridescent finish, very consistent throughout. Signed on the bottom "Steuben Aurene - 4527"; in excellent condition. 5.5"W x 6"H.

Has a trumpeted platform with a domed top, the stem of the base is molded with 6 individual leaf shaped panels. At the top of the stem are 3 arms which hold a 16" dia. shade (shade missing). Has a 2 socket hammered copper light cluster. Unmarked, in excellent condition with a good patina. Not wired. Shade 14" diameter x 24.5"H.
