Lot 24

CHARLES FRODSHAM, LONDON DOUBLE BOXED CHRONOMETER.
The outer wood box appears to be original and is marked in chalk on the inside "1813". The leather strap is missing. The inner wood box has a brass plaque signed "Charles Frodsham" London. It also has a bone inlaid medallion "1813". The inner box has a lock and key. The chronometer has a full gimbaled brass tub with original key. It has a brass dust cover that is keyed. Nice set of very delicate blued hands. The 3"dial has a soft butler finish with black Roman hour numerals and black minute markers. The dial is signed " CHARLES FRODSHAM 7 PAVEMENT FINSBURY SQU LONDON NO. 1813." The dial has a subsidiary second bit and an up/down power indicator. The movement is a solid brass single fusee movement with detent escapement and helical hairspring. The movement is dry of oil and sluggish. It does run but does not make 24 hours. It would benefit from a cleaning and oil. The key supplied in the box is old and does wind the clock but is not for setting the hands. Both boxes have a nice old soft finish. 6.25"W x 7"H x 6.25"D.
Estimate $1,500 - 2,500.
