AUCTION HELD JUNE 14 IN
PITTSFIELD, MASS.
(Pittsfield,
Mass.) - A magnificent E.
Howard & Co. #61
astronomical floor
regulator, consigned from an
estate in Baltimore and
never before offered for
sale, soared to $195,500 at
a Spring Clock Auction held
June 14 by Fontaine's
Auction Gallery. It was the
second highest amount ever
paid for A Howard
astronomical floor regulator
and was by far the top lot
in a sale that grossed over
$1.2 million.

PITTSFIELD — They came to
buy time.
More than 100 collectors and
dealers bid on 525 antique
clocks yesterday afternoon
at Fontaine's Auction
Gallery on West Housatonic
Street during Berkshire
County's first clock
auction.
Hundreds more across the
United States and around the
world participated by
bidding at home with the
Internet sites eBay Live and
Proxibid.
Auctioneer John Fontaine
said the six-hour auction
was expected to fetch close
to $1 million in total
sales.

500 vintage collectible
clocks – many of them
exceedingly rare and
museum-quality – will be
sold on Saturday, June 14,
starting at 10 a.m., by
Fontaine's Auction Gallery. A catalog is available

The sale will
feature early E. Howard
examples, to include #1, #3,
#4, #5, #7, #8, #9, #10 and
#11; as well as a
spectacular #61 Astronomical
Floor Regulator with mercury
pendulum; and a #70 clock
with 16-inch dial. The #1
clock is a weight-driven
banjo clock and technically
a Howard & Davis creation
(predating E. Howard's
dissolution, in 1857). Such
examples are becoming
increasingly rare.

marble-top center table by
J. & J.W. Meeks, in
untouched all-original
condition, sold for $48,875
at an Exceptional Antique
Auction held February 23 by
Fontaine's Auction Gallery.
The sale was held in the
firm's spacious gallery,
located at 1485 W.
Housatonic Street in
Pittsfield. The Meeks table
was the day's top lot of the
over 1,000 sold. -
