All Fontaine's Auctions are open to the public. We offer several ways to participate, whether you are attending the auction in person or bidding from the other side of the world.

You can leave an absentee bid prior to the auction or bid live from the gallery floor, telephone or the internet. Preview times and dates are scheduled for each auction.

Online catalogues are available free of charge for all catalogued auctions. We also schedule "Estate" & "Discovery" auctions several times a year which are uncatalogued. Click on a current auction listed on the home page to access information about that auction.

If you need additional information about an item in the auction, a member of Fontaine's staff is available to answer questions by email, telephone or fax prior to the auction. The auctioneer will typically sell 80 - 100 lots per hour.

Place a bid only if you're serious about buying the item. If you are the successful and winning bidder, you have entered into a legally binding contract to purchase the property bid on from the seller. You should contact Fontaine's Antique Auction Gallery to resolve any questions before bidding.

When bidding live, DO NOT leave your computer or smart device unattended - electronic bids CAN NOT be retracted once submitted. Only click on the BID NOW, or BID buttons when you WANT to place a bid.

1. Sign up with LiveAuctioneers.com first.
2. Sign up for the Fontaine Auction you wish to bid at.
3. Be sure to read the HOW TO BID on liveauctioneers. Using the Bidding Console
4. You will be approved after your account is reviewed.
5. Registration for online bidding 2 days before the auction my NOT have time to be verified.
6. If you sign up the day of the auction and are NOT from the United States WITH a past good bidding history - you will not be approved to bid.

The "hammer price" is the winning bid amount.

A "Buyer's Premium" and Massachusetts sales tax (6.25%, if applicable) are then added to the hammer price.

The hammer price plus the buyer's premium is known as the "price realized."

A buyer's premium in the amount of 18% of the successful high bid will be added to the amount of the successful bid price for all lots purchased at auction.

Upon the announcement by the auctioneer, the successful bidder becomes the purchaser and is responsible for the full amount owing as allowed by the "Terms of Sale".

Bidding Increments:

0 - 100 = 10
100 - 500 = 25
500 - 1,000 = 50
1,000 - 2,500 = 100
2,500 - 5,000 = 250
5,000 - 10,000 = 500
10,000 - 25,000 = 1,000
25,000 - 50,000 = 2,500
50,000 - 100,000 = 5,000

The auctioneer has the sole and exclusive power, discretion, and authority to regulate the bidding and its increments.

Exemption of Taxes: Only valid resale certificates are accepted as proof of exemption from Massachusetts's sales tax by U.S. dealers. No Massachusetts sales tax is charged for purchases shipped out of state.
